River South Is Back: Bainbridge's Biggest Block Party Returns This Saturday

Pull up a chair, neighbor — because Downtown Bainbridge, Georgia is throwing one of Southwest Georgia's most beloved community celebrations today, and if you haven't made your plans yet, there's still time.

The 6th Annual River South Music & Arts Festival has arrived, and Decatur County is ready to show out.

Today — Saturday, September 12, 2026 — Downtown Bainbridge transforms into a full-day celebration of music, art, fitness, food, and community pride. The River South Music & Arts Festival, now in its sixth year, has become one of the most anticipated events on the Southwest Georgia calendar, and this year's lineup is bigger and more vibrant than ever.

The fun kicks off early. At 8:00 a.m., runners and walkers of all fitness levels can lace up for the River South 5K — a scenic run through the heart of Bainbridge. Whether you're a seasoned racer or just looking for a spirited morning walk with your neighbors, you're welcome at the starting line.

From there, the day keeps building. Pickleball, tennis, and a community yoga class give active folks plenty of ways to move their bodies before the afternoon festivities take over. And if art is more your speed, the Firehouse Arts Center's Photography Pin-Up Show and the 4th Annual Chalk Walk Contest are the places to be.

The Chalk Walk Contest runs from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. in front of the Firehouse Arts Center and the Courthouse in Downtown Bainbridge. Participants of all ages are given a 3x3 square of sidewalk and invited to create something beautiful. Categories include Best Kid's Overall, Best Teens and Adults Overall, and People's Choice. Entry is just $5.

The Photography Pin-Up Show at the Firehouse Arts Center (11:00 a.m.–3:00 p.m.) invites photographers of every experience level to display prints for the community to enjoy — and possibly take home for $20 or less. You don't have to call yourself a photographer to participate. If you've ever captured something beautiful, strange, or worth remembering, this show was made for you.

As the afternoon winds into evening, the energy shifts to the main stage. Live music begins at 4:00 p.m., featuring three acts representing the rich musical heritage of the South:
