Fayette County: Blood Drives That Save Lives Right Here at Home
If you live in Fayetteville or anywhere in Fayette County, here is something you might not know: when an emergency vehicle responds to a call in your neighborhood, it may already be carrying the blood needed to save a life before the patient ever reaches a hospital.
Fayette County Fire and Emergency Services operates one of only a handful of Pre-Hospital Blood Transfusion Programs in all of Georgia. First in EMS Region 4 — covering 12 counties — the program launched in August 2025. Squad-2 and Squad-10 now carry blood products that can be administered on scene. With transport times to the nearest trauma center ranging from 30 to 45 minutes, this is the kind of innovation that changes outcomes for critically injured patients right on the side of the road.
To keep the program running, the department needs your blood. Two upcoming drives are open to every willing donor in the community:
Sunday, October 12, 2026 — 8:30 AM to 2:00 PM behind Fire HQ at 140 Stonewall Ave., Fayetteville, GA
Sunday, October 19, 2026 — 8:30 AM to 2:00 PM behind Fire HQ at 140 Stonewall Ave., Fayetteville, GA
To sign up, visit fayettecountyga.gov/blooddrive. A single donation can help your neighbor, your coworker, or your child in the back of an ambulance right here in Fayette County.
Why It Matters
These two events share the same heartbeat: neighbors taking care of neighbors.
Across South Metro Atlanta and Fayette County, health disparities are real. Conditions like high blood pressure, heart disease, and diabetes affect our communities at higher rates than in many other parts of the country. Too often, the barrier is not willingness — it is access. It is not knowing where to go. It is not being able to afford a doctor's visit. Events like the Union City Health & Wellness Day remove every one of those barriers. Free. Local. Real physicians on site. Breakfast included.
And the Fayette County blood drives? They are a chance to give a gift no store can sell: a future. Your donation supports someone in the back of an ambulance — maybe a grandmother. Maybe a child. Maybe your neighbor.
How This Impacts Our Community
Families in Union City gain access to specialist-level health education and potentially life-changing screenings at zero cost.
Eligible attendees can receive a free blood pressure monitor — a tool that empowers long-term daily health management at home.
Fayette County blood donors directly fund a pre-hospital program serving their own streets — one of the most powerful local investments anyone can make.
The Fayette County Pre-Hospital Transfusion Program was the first of its kind in EMS Region 4. Blood donations help keep this pioneering service operational.
How You Can Get Involved
The village grows stronger when neighbors know each other — and look out for each other. Here are seven ways to plug in right now:
Attend the Union City Health & Wellness Day — Text HEALTH + your name to (678) 368-7197 to reserve your spot before they fill up.
Sign up to donate blood on October 12 or 19 at fayettecountyga.gov/blooddrive. It takes about an hour and saves lives in your own county.
Share this article with someone in Union City, South Fulton, College Park, or Fayette County who needs these resources.
Post about the Union City event in your neighborhood Facebook group, Nextdoor, or church chat — space is limited and your share could be someone's lifeline.
Bring a neighbor who might not otherwise know about these resources — health events are stronger when we attend them together.
Mark your calendar for the Fayette County NAACP Freedom Fund Gala on November 7. It is a powerful evening of Motown music, fellowship, and community conversation — and your support funds youth leadership and civic engagement programs.

Around the Village Takeaway
A healthy village is not built in a hospital — it is built every time a neighbor shows up for another neighbor, rolls up a sleeve, and says: I am here.
