Newton County Sheriff's Toy Ride Rolls Out of Oxford, GA on Nov. 14 to Brighten Christmas for Local Kids
Mark your calendar, neighbors: on Saturday, Nov. 14, motorcycles will roll out of Oxford, Georgia, for a very good cause. The Newton County Sheriff's Office is hosting its annual Toy Ride "to help make Christmas brighter for local children," and it all starts at The Church Covington on Highway 142.
If you ride, know someone who does, or simply love a good community tradition, here is what we have confirmed so you can plan ahead. Pull up a chair on the porch, because this one is worth knowing about.
What's Happening Around the Village
Sheriff Ezell Brown and the Newton County Sheriff's Office announced the annual Toy Ride for Saturday, Nov. 14. The event is based at The Church Covington, 11975 Highway 142, Oxford, GA 30054, right here in Newton County.
According to the sheriff's office announcement, registration opens at 9 a.m., and the ride leaves at 10:30 a.m.. The posted fees are $25 for a single rider and $35 for double riders. You can read the announcement on the Newton County Sheriff's Office website.
This is no first-timer. When the sheriff's office promoted the 2024 event, it called it the 25th Annual Toy Ride and said the fees benefit local children at Christmas. That is more than two decades of neighbors turning a Saturday morning into holiday joy.
A quick note on what we could not confirm: the announcement we found does not say whether riders should bring a new toy, what route the ride will take, or whether spectators are welcome at the church. Rather than guess, we suggest calling the sheriff's office before you head out (details below).
Why It Matters
The holidays are magical for many children, but for some families the season arrives with extra expenses at exactly the time of year when budgets feel tight. Community efforts like the Toy Ride help make sure more children in our area have something to smile about when December comes.
It also reminds us what a village looks like in action: a sheriff's office, a church willing to open its parking lot and doors, and everyday riders who give up a Saturday morning for kids they may never meet.
How This Impacts Our Community
The people who benefit most are local children and the families who care for them, in Oxford, Covington and across Newton County. Riders and supporters benefit too, since an event like this gives neighbors and deputies a friendly, face-to-face way to connect outside of an emergency.
If your family could use a little extra help this Christmas, the Salvation Army's Covington-Newton County Service Center lists toy drives and its Angel Tree among its holiday efforts. Call or stop by to ask about current sign-up details and deadlines.
